Robert N. Phalen is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and holds a doctorate in environmental health sciences from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he conducted research on personal protective equipment. Dr. Phalen's background includes over ten years experience in the practice of industrial hygiene, health and safety, environmental health, and ergonomics. Since 2001, he has presented at national conferences on the topics of ergonomics, personal protective clothing, and exposure assessment. He is an Associate Professor in Environmental Health Sciences at California State University San Bernardino and recently published (second author) a textbook on air pollution science. The text is Introduction to Air Pollution science: A Public Health Perspective. Dr. Phalen is passionate about ensuring occupational and environmental health professionals have the tools and skills necessary to protect worker health and safety.
